I mentioned it was time to get our chimney inspected to George. He said the local fire department provides free inspections. If our chimney flunks the inspection, we’ll have to pay a chimney cleaning service to sweep it. But if it passes, we’re done! It works for me! If you have a fireplace, you may want to check out your own fire department and see if they provide a similar service.
Second, we only have a great room (no separate den or family room). I hate limiting play and snacks when the grandchildren visit; what’s family movie night without popcorn? I found this picture I used with someone who was helping me decorate this room (it wasn’t done but we were getting closer) so you could see my concerns with the couch.
She mentioned I could buy a new painter’s canvas drop cloth and just pop it on the couch during their visits. Look how well it turned out! The kids still feel like they are in a nice room but everyone can relax now that the couch is safe! The drop cloth on the couch came from Amazon. It didn’t feel scratchy at all and I didn’t iron it first (though I probably should have tried!) I think the room looks cozy and will welcome them when they visit during the Christmas holidays.
We finished the room by the way so I should post a few pictures later. My friend has a real knack for decorating with inexpensive finds from discount stores and we didn’t spend much money at all.
