George and I had the pleasure of having dinner with a couple we met on-line in a cooking forum. They were older than us and owned their own business. We really looked up to them and had a delightful evening getting to know each other better.
I realized that they knew a lot about the world of money and had obviously done very well. I got the courage to ask Dick for some advice in handling a small inheritance I had received from my mother. His words were full of wisdom as I knew they would be. He simply said “You have to do what gives you peace.”
I realized he was incredibly wise. Even if I found the best investment on the planet, it wouldn’t do us any good if it stressed us out and ended up hurting our health. (Stress is a bigger risk factor than smoking!) It also kept him from getting blamed down the road if the investment went south! He put the responsibility on us where it should be. We did end up making good decisions with that money and I’ve never forgotten the wisdom of his words.
Let the peace of God rule in your hearts … Colossians 3:15.
